@damienvince is progressing beautifully, we are 7 innings in...

well folks, been a couple weeks it seems since my last post, I had promised myself I'd do one once a week, even have in my calendar to do it Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night, but the damn dismiss button is just too easy ;)

so here we are, about 4 weeks into training, and I see light at the end of the tunnel. Don't get me wrong, I have so much work ahead of me, and it is frightening. I'm studying things that feel like high school all over again. I'm working on the techniques Bennett has built and the more I study, the more ways I find to learn it faster. Creating all these neural pathways and training the brain to learn more and utilize more information faster and faster.

The great thing I found over the last 2 weeks is that we can now utilize the techniques to organize poker information in my head. I'm learning things like how I can calculate any specific 2 cards combination in my head what the win rate is against any random hand. So I know that a hand like T7 suited is around 52% against a random hand... now this information might be useless in most cases to an average player, but I also know that a guy in a sit and go will shove with any random cards in the SB because he has to... so I know I can call with a range of hands vs. guessing that I have to.

That also said, using the organizations in the brain, I'm hoping to work with Bennett on putting in some more tools for things like ICM and poker theory. Again, having the information at our finger tips instead of guessing. Oh yeah, and its almost exact information, not just 'generalizations'.

I know that I'd still get crushed by the elite players in the world. I know that even if I knew this information cold, and was able to make it deep in a World Series event, I wouldn't be better then those 5% elite players, but I'd sure be able to give them a run for it... And for now that's what I'm shooting for... learn learn learn.

I feel pretty positive, we're now getting into the meat of this training as it applies to poker, I feel more comfortable in my game, and I have a plan. Thats all I can ask for now.

Thanks again to @bennettonika follow him if you aren't already. I'm excited to see the progress with his new student Mary @ponderingpoker. I'm also very impressed that @davidsmith23 has done this all without the use of an iPad or technology really!

Good night folks

D

Well put Damien. First off, it would be extremely selfish of me to develop the ICM memory model without giving you a tonne of credit for telling me about it. I think the ICM model is great in the absence of any other information. We both know how much information you can now accumulate at a live table, and although the ICM model is good, I feel as though it is just like any other tool I have trained you on.....it has it's purpose.

I think card players in general look at poker (myself included) like it can be played with a magic bullet that solves all problems. It's like when you bust out you think to yourself " ah I shoulda played tighter or I shouldn't called or I have to be more aggressive post flop". It took me a long time to learn that poker is a game that you need to have an arsenal of tools to compete against the world. In the same manner that you cannot build a house with just a wrench, you cannot win at poker with a single magical strategy. Well, I suppose you could build a house and you could win, but how difficult would the house be to build, how often would you win?

You might not be better than the top pros, but I think with the more tools you can put in your head for a live game, you can certainly even the odds with the arsenal of information you have - more than just a run. I think you make it genuinely difficult for anyone even the pros to beat you.

Poker memory is the bridge from the computer to the Rio. You my friend, along with Mike and Mary are pioneers in the new breed of poker player we spoke of. You all could be called mnemonics.

I am again very proud of what all of you have accomplished in such a short period of time. I have drastically overestimated the time it would require for you to become proficient in my techniques. What took me months of trial and error to develop, you will have learned in as little as 5 to 6 weeks. Thanks again, and let's see if we can't develop the memory model for the ICM.

@ponderingpoker learns how to track VPIP and is well on her way

Just finished talking with Bennett. Another great session filled with value packed information! This could actually make me a better player... I love it! So I have a couple of lists to memorize and then put to use some real work at the poker tables when I play this weekend. Can't wait to test this out. VPIP - voluntarily put money into the pot.... memory technique that offers an easy way to calculate the percentage. Then later, make better decisions using this information coupled with my hand info... good stuff. Thanks Bennett!

Awesome job tonight Mary, remember when you were asking how memory applies?

I will check up on you in a few days

@ponderingpoker memorized a deck in 55 minutes...

was up early this morning and decided it was a perfect time to memorize my deck of cards. I checked the time...4am ....i got down to business. I had a few fill my coffeecup breaks, but continued my journey thru my apartment, to th gym, the pool, my car, Foxwoods casino, my office lobby and finally my office... I forgot to remember 2 final places and was a little surprised to find the 2 remaining cards, but that didnt last long....I noted card 51 and thought, hey I wonder if I can figure out what the 52nd card was and low & be hold, I did it, I guessed right. Then i went back and in order named all 52 cards ( ok I missed one) but once I realized I'd only named 4 items in the bathroom I got that card right too. I checked the clock 4:55am! I bet I could still run the cards thru right now @ 7 pm.. Wow, amazing. It is quite cool ... this loci thing works. Bennett is a very good teacher. When he gets too busy to take on students, maybe I could teach this too.!..yep, that's what happens when you get up before most of north America! It's me Mary of Pondering Poker! From my iPad.

One more success story, good work Mary! Now go back and re read your original post, take a look at how far you have come in such a short time.

@ponderingpoker sets a baseline

@ponderingpoker has tried to do the baseline and well....you can read below as to how well the old rote memory works...

We are chatting over OOVOO in the next 15 minutes and we shall start her journey into the memory world.

@ponderingpoker comments

"So I've completed my initial baselines and the results were pretty bad!  The first task I came close.  I identified the six of spades but no, the missing card was the four of diamonds.  The next task I was able to successfully memorize 18 cards!! but was pretty worn out after that and decided to let that be my result.  I moved on to the next task last night and took a break that lasted till this morning.  It finally did me in.  What a challenge.  The good news is that it was so difficult to remember two lists of 30 two-card hands, that I ended up cleaning the bathroom, a chore I only do when the alternative is even more challenging.  So, thank you Bennett, that bathroom's clean now.  And, I can see the value of those 30 hands per type.  I took more detailed notes, but for now, this is my story."

Nothing like a clean bathroom Mary. Now lets make this easier for you.

@ponderingpoker is the newest Poker memory trainee

Her comment here is listed on the poker promotion blog I wrote back in December. I thought it would be prudent to be front and center on the blog mainly because Mary has the very same skepticism as some of my close friends in Winnipeg I shared this system with.

Read below and then I will comment on her curiosity...

Hi Bennett and readers, I am going to embark on Bennett's path using his methods toward improving memory at poker. Clearly, it's not the only thing that needs improving in my poker game but I am happy to improve what I can. Do I think it will work? Because there's plenty room for improvement, I'm sure it will work to some extent. Will I be able to increase my memory in a way that is truly awesome? I am not quite so sure about that, but I'm willing to keep an open mind. I can have trouble remembering people's names that I've played poker with dozens of times, so any help in memory enhancement is appreciated. I'm very curious though - how can an enhanced memory help me at poker. It's not like I'm counting cards.... what is this benefit that I may gain through developing these skills. Curious, yes I am.

I am proud to have a system so new to poker that I get curiosity and questions like these. As you recall @damienvince blindly followed my instructions and did not know how an enhanced memory could be applied. The same happened with @davidsmith23, and now @ponderingpoker has those same thoughts. So for those readers who are contemplating if this system works, @ponderingpoker and I met through twitter, the same as my other trainees. Since they haven't invented teleportation yet, you can reasonably be assured I didn't fly to New York and meet her. I am now training 3 different people from 3 different parts of North America at the same time thru video conferencing and twitter messages.

First of all Mary, I will not be enhancing your memory. Your brain has already recorded everything you have ever said and ever done. In short your memory is already awesome. Since paper and books have been invented, humans have slowly but surely lost the age old art of keeping information in their head. I will simply be teaching you this art that has been rediscovered by the people like Harry Lorrayne. Unfortunately the more computers become a part of our lives, the more we get away from what our brains are truly capable of. The proof is in the two individuals I have trained thus far, and I will further prove with you. You can believe I am a magical person that has suddenly over a 10 day period "given" these powers to @davidsmith23 and @damienvince, or I have just unleashed what was hidden there all along. Hence the title of my book " UNLEASH YOUR HIDDEN poker memory".

@damienvince has told me in private messages just yesterday in fact that he is already extrapolating what he can do with my system, or rather his memory he now knows how to use. He was extremely skeptical when we started, and in less than 2 weeks he is as far as I know a big believer in the edge you will gain from the training you will receive.

I am very much looking forward to teaching you this art, and I am glad you got my ARC. Keep in mind there are many errors in the ARC, and we have corrected them for the final printing, which is happening as we speak.

One final thought, Stu Ungar was in my opinion, one of the greatest tournament players that ever lived. He was said to have had an eidetic memory. He is the inspiration for this system, and I hope you enjoy it.

I am looking forward to your results of the baseline in the training blog.

Good luck and we will chat tomorrow.
